I started my aikido journey in 2000 at the University of Sunderland Aikido Club under Peter Seth Sensei and Sean Cassidy Sensei. I started to train with Tony Heseltine Sensei at Prince Bishops Aikido in 2002, joining White Rose Aikikai under Shane Riley Shihan and promoting to Shodan (1st Dan) in 2005.
Joining the Army in 2006 I was able to train with a number of clubs in aikido, jujitsu and boxing before promoting to Nidan (2nd Dan) in 2014.
As a Military Policeman I have had the opportunity to use my aikido practically, notably upskilling the Helmand Police Chief’s protection team in unarmed combat. White Rose Aikido has given me skill set and mentality to diffuse complex situations; backed up by solid, robust technique.
I opened my a dojo in Aldershot in January 2022, supported by Riley Shihan and the other White Rose seniors. I look forward to meeting you all on the mat!
